ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. --  Rockland County radio fans have a new listening option online with the launch Wednesday of Hudson River Radio by two local radio men.

Aimed at "everything local," the station hudsonriverradio.com offers a variety of programming including a morning drive-time show with Steve Zarro and Katy Baze from 7 to 9 a.m. and an afternoon drive show with local Neil Richter from 4 to 6 p.m.

There will also be a mix of local history shows, music, and a gardening show to get the station off the ground, said co-owner Brian Horowitz.

"We also want to focus on interns so they can grow as broadcasters to fill in our open hours, as well locals who may have an interesting idea," he said.

He started the business with his college friend Neil Briscoe. The two, longtime radio men who helped start the SUNY Potsdam radio station, said they wanted to offer Rockland residents a different listening option that is more local.

To make sure the station takes off, the two men, who both have other full-time jobs, made sure the station has a mobile app for phones so it can be streamed in cars and anywhere the listener happens to be.

The apps are available in the Apple or Google Play stores. You can also listen online and through Facebook or Twitter.

"We have a good mix of talent to help us get started and we've received great feedback on the first couple of days," Horowitz said.

For an off-the-wall touch, the station will also produce its own sitcom that will air at 9 a.m. each Friday. The sitcom is called "On The Air," and it’s about a small town radio station run by a group of quasi-professionals.

"Neil Briscoe and I started writing it for fun almost five years ago. We put together the pilot late last year. The full episode will be on the station’s website around 9 a.m. Friday," Horowitz said.
