ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Sulome Anderson, a Palisades native, didn't meet her father until she was six.

Anderson's father, Terry Anderson, was taken hostage in Lebanon while covering the country's civil war three months before she was born. Sulome recounts the experience in her new memoir, "The Hostage's Daughter: A Story of Family, Madness and the Middle East."

Sulome will be discussing the book at the HNA Palisades Premiere Conference Center at 334 Route 9w on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m. The event is being presented by the Palisades Library.

After he was released, Sulome said her father was plagued by PTSD and was moody and aloof. Sulome decided to travel to the Middle East as a reporter,  hoping to understand her father and the men who kidnapped him.

A graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, Sulome has written for Newsweek, the Atlantic, New York, Harpers, Vice and the Village Voice, covering topics like the war against ISIS, child suicide among Syrian refugees and Hezbollah's position in Lebanon.

There will be a $10 ($5 for students) charge at the door to benefit the library.  To register for the event, click here . For more information, call 845-359-0136.
