Mother Nature has some sense of humor.

Sunday night's rare Supermoon was only visible in Dutchess where clouds were thin.

On the night when the moon was closer to Earth than it has been in the last 68 years - or will be again until 2034 - area skies were filled with clouds ranging from light to heavy enough to completely block Monday night's impressive moon.

Daily Voice managed to get a quick capture (see gallery) as it rose from the horizon over Poughkeepsie, before climbing behind a wall of clouds.

The good news? Lost of people saw the rare supermoon one night earlier - when it was 99 percent full.

And while tonight's rain in the area kept the moon veiled again, tomorrow night's forecast is better. And not long after 5 p.m., that moon will rise again, only two nights removed from full, and still very impressive. So if you didn't catch it Sunday night, you still have a shot a getting a very good look Wednesday, even Thursday.

And for those looking to get photos of the rare supermoon, remember a shot of just the moon doesn't give viewers any reference point, and ends up looking like any other moon pic.

The trick is to put the moon behind some thing recognizable - a building, a tree, a mountain, bridge, etc. - some kind of reference point so the exceptional size is visible.

In the gallery is a shot of the supermoon rising Monday night over Poughkeepsie, and a few panoramic shots of the view of Walkway Over the Hudson and the Mid-Hudson Bridge from the Hudson River, looking east toward Poughkeepsie.
