HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Happy Birthday to Haverstraw's Derrick Lassic.
Derrick Lassic, who was born in Haverstraw, turns 45 on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Lassic was running back in the 1994 Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys and is most remembered for taking over for Emmitt Smith during a contract dispute in 1993 season. He also was running back for San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers and played college football for the University of Alabama.
At North Rockland High School, Lassic scored a county-record 194 points and fifth-best in New York State. He also set state records with 1,719 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns, was named New York State's large school Player of the Year and was a USA Today's High School All-American.
Later he went on to appear in the movie "Any Given Sunday," and several other features. He currently lives in Atlanta, Ga., where he works in medical sales.
