CONGERS, N.Y. - The Orangetown community is coming together to help one of its own.

A benefit is being held for Tom Kennedy, who is battling breast cancer. Tom is the son of Thomas Kennedy, an Orangetown Police Officer who was killed by a drunk driver in 1973 while directing traffic.

The benefit will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at Kennelly's Grille House at 962 South Route 9 West in Congers from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and feature music by the Cousins Moran Band.

Kennedy was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, though last month is prognosis took a turn for the worst, with the cancer spreading to his brain.

A GoFundMe set up for the family has raised $18,745 as of Friday afternoon.

Admission for the event is $45 for adults and $15 for children.
