"Donating blood is one of the most generous acts a person can perform," Day said. "It is truly life-saving."

This blood drive is especially important because so many drives were canceled because of the blizzard earlier this week.

Blood banks report that they are running low.

The blood drive organized by county employees will be held at the Rockland Fire Training Center. Walk-ins from the community are welcome.

The blood drive will be run by the New York Blood Center, which serves hospitals in Rockland and throughout the region.

The New York Blood Center reminds people how important it is to have an adequately stocked blood supply to respond when communities are faced with patient traumas or other events that require life-saving blood products.

Walk-ins are welcome. To find other blood drives or for more information, please call 1-800-933-2566.
