The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Sunday when the woman was beginning to cross the railroad tracks at Pineview Road, which does not have a crossing bar or lights when she realized she didn't have time to make it across the tracks before she was hit, said Clarkstown Police Officer Peter Walker.

The train clipped the front of the SUV, taking her front bumper and license plate with it, he said.

The woman, who was "really shaken," backed up her Mercury Mountaineer after being hit and drove away from the area, Walker said.

Police were able to use the license plate attached to the bumper that they found on the tracks to find out the make of the car and who it belonged to, he added.

After a search, officers found the woman and her passenger at a local shopping center, he said.

Neither she nor her passenger was injured.

The train stopped after striking the SUV, there was no damage to the train or any employees.
