U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said he has real concerns about possible oil tanker accidents on the Hudson River because nautical maps to guide boats are so outdated, according to lohud.com.
Standing on the bank of the Hudson, Schumer said the river hasn't been surveyed since 1939, the story said. Schumer said from near Albany to the Hudson Valley, more than 25 million gallons of crude oil traverse the river each week, lohud.com reported.
He's calling on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to update the map, and NOAA officials said updating the maps is an agency priority, lohud.com said.
