The effort by the Clarkstown and Stony Point police departments is aimed at making sure teens between the ages of 16 and 24 make it to their prom and graduation chairs by cracking down on speeding, cell phone use, texting, and drinking and driving.

The vast majority of teen crashes that result in death are caused either directly or indirectly by driver inexperience, inattention or recklessness, police said.

"These incidents devastate families and the school population and negatively impact the local community," said Stony Point Police Chief Brian Moore.

All too often a teen dies in a car crash and these memorable moments for parents, siblings, family, friends, educators and the community become overshadowed by the tragedy of a young life lost, police added.

During the initiative, School Resource Officers will be addressing conduct outreach with students and the police department will be conducting special traffic safety details in the vicinity of high schools including:

  •  Monday, April 24 – Speeding in School Zones
  •  Tuesday, April 25 – Seatbelts and Child Restraints
  •  Wednesday, April 26, – Cell Phone Use and Texting
  • Thursday, April 27– Operation Safe Stop
  • Friday, April 28th, 2017 – Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving
