Northwest Airlines Flight 6231 Crash Near Stony Point Remembered

STONY POINT, N. Y. -- A somber crowd gathered Saturday to mark the four decades since a Boeing 727 crashed in a remote area of Harriman State Park near Stony Point, killing all three pilots aboard, according to Lohud.com.

A marker memorializing the site of the crash was unveiled Saturday at the emotional ceremony attended by family members, as well as emergency personnel who responded to the scene Dec. 1, 1974, Lohud.com reported.

Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 6231 had just taken off from Kennedy Airport on its way to Buffalo when it crashed in the remote area of Rockland County, the story said. The plane was on the way to pick up the Baltimore Colts football team to fly them home, Lohud.com said.
