Edwin Wood, of Warwick, who was an expert skier, was skiing on the Annapurna trail, a double black diamond (expert) trail on Hunter's West side when he lost control and slid approximately 200 feet before leaving the trail, striking several trees, state police said.
Wood was extricated by the ski patrol and then treated by paramedics and Hunter area ambulance personnel before being pronounced dead, police said.
State Police are currently treating the matter as an accidental fall and do not suspect any foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for a later date.
