NORTH ROCKLAND, N.Y. -- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is hoping that spending millions for upgrades to Stewart Airport near Newburgh will reverse the trend of dwindling passengers, according to Time Warner Cable News.

The authority is setting aside almost $13 million in next year's budget to expand the terminal, among other improvements; but judging by the numbers, attracting more travelers might be an uphill battle, added TWC News.

In the 12-month time period that ended in September, passengers numbers were down at the airport by 8.1 percent, compared with an increase of 6 percent at all of the area's other airports, the news outlet added.
