The Pascack Valley Line train, which crashed at the Hoboken station around 8:35 a.m., originated in Spring Valley at 7:23 a.m. Rockland County Executive Ed Day said.
Day also noted on Twitter that he had been in touch with the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo regarding the crash and offered assistance as needed.
When the news first broke, Day posted on Twitter: "#NJtransit train to #Hoboken runs thru #Rockland. Awaiting word on casualties. Praying for the best."
Day also tweeted that Rockland emergency services wereready to respond to if asked and counseling services would be prepared to provide help with crash victims.
The train slammed through a wall at the Hoboken station during the Thursday morning rush, authorities and witnesses said.
The No. 1614 train left Spring Valley at 7:23 a.m. and was due in Hoboken at 8:45 a.m. when it crashed on Track 5, NJ Transit said. When heading south, the train makes stops in Spring Valley, Pearl River and Nanuet.
Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme said he is waiting for news of any local casualties because the train had many riders from Spring Valley.
"Of course, we offer our hopes and prayers that no one else dies from the accident," Delhomme said. "We also are waiting to contact the Red Cross to see if any local families will need assistance."
Delhomme added that the Spring Valley train line is neglected by the New Jersey Transit and plans to approach Cuomo about the dangerous conditions connected with the train.
"We have pot holes and unsafe rails," he added.
The Rockland Fire Department offered their thoughts as well on Facebook: "Prayers to all involved in this morning train accident in Hoboken. The train involved originated out of Spring Valley from 7:23 AM."
