STONY POINT, N.Y. -- Scott Salotto, Rockland County's Executive Ed Day’s communications director, has been organizing a Saturday, Nov. 7 ceremony and plaque dedication to finally pay tribute to the lives lost and the recovery efforts of local first responders of Northwest Airlines Flight 6231 in Stony Point, according to a story on lohud.com

The airplane crashed in Harriman State Park on Dec. 1, 1974. It crashed just minutes after taking off from Kennedy Airport on its way to Buffalo, lohud.com said.

The Boeing 727’s crew received erroneous readings from their instruments because a speed indicator had iced up. This caused them to slow the 727 down so much that it went into a spin, lohud.com said.

Capt. John Lagorio, 35, of Edina, Minn., First Officer Walter Zadra, 32, of Seattle, Wash; Second Officer James Cox, 33, of Seattle, Wash, were all killed, lohud.com said.

No marker was ever erected at the crash site and no memorial for the three men has been held, lohud.com said.
