Stony Point Woman Charged With DWI After Injuring Child In Hit-Run Incident

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A hit-and-run driver was tracked down by police after a child was struck by the vehicle in Ramapo on Friday night.

The incident on Route 202 near Route 306, with the vehicle reportedly fleeing the scene and continuing eastbound on Route 202, Ramapo Police said.

The child, sustained injuries to the head and leg, was treated at the scene and transported to Westchester Medical Center by Hatzolah Ambulance.

The vehicle was later located by Ramapo Police officers in the parking lot of an area diner. The suspect's vehicle had damage consistent with the injuries to the victim, and matched the description provided by witnesses at the scene, according to police.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman from Stony Point, was arrested and charged with DWI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, assault in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She is being held at Ramapo Police Department pending court arraignment. Police have not yet released the woman's name.
