The Mamaroneck High School graduate ended his distinguished military career serving as assistant adjutant general at Stewart Air Base in Orange County.

Born on Dec. 17, 1926, in Mamaroneck, he was the son of the late Joseph Marchesiello and Margaret N. (Tezzi) Marchesiello.

Brig. Gen. Marchesiello's military career commenced in 1945 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the Army until 1948 at which time he enlisted in the New York Air National Guard.

On June 25, 1957, he was commissioned as a first lieutenant, a "Mustang" service member, at which time he was transferred to the 109th (Stratton) Air base in Glenville, N.Y.

His last duty station was at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, N.Y., where he retired in December 1986 as assistant adjutant general for Air.

Brig. Gen. Marchesiello was known in the Armed Forces as a "Mustang" -- a slang term referring to a commissioned officer who began his career as an enlisted service member.

He spent time attached to the 152nd Aircraft Control and Warning Group, the 109th Fighter Interceptor Group, the 109th Air Transport Group (Heavy), the 109th Supply Squadron, the 109th Support Squadron, and New York Air National Guard HQS. His assignments included Greenland and from Schenectady to White Plains and Newburgh stateside.

Brig. Gen. Marchesiello earned more than a dozen decorations and service awards. These included the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. He was an expert in small arms marksmanship and was honored with Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/2 Hour Glass Devices which was an outward sign of his remarkable longevity to his continuing commitment to the military. He truly embodied the designation of being a member of “the Greatest Generation”.

In civilian life, he was a very active member of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Glenville community. He served as past P.T.A. president of Charlton Heights elementary school and past treasurer/member of the Scotia-Glenville Rotary. He also was one of the founding members of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Pop Warner Football League, and past president for the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

His proudest accomplishment, however, was his family.
