THEILLS, N.Y. – Howard Farewell, a resident of Theills, died Thursday, April 21. He was 86.
He was born on Dec.1,1929, in the Bronx, to Denise and Ada (Nelson) Farewell.
He worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 807 as a truck driver for 48 years, and retired in 1989. He was a life and founding member of the David B. Roche Fire Dept. in Theills. He was still on the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Theills Roosevelt Fire District. He was their chief Engineer and chief Chauffer for many years. He is a life member of the Rockland County Volunteer Fireman’s assoc. and Rockland County Chief’s Assoc. He was also an original and founding member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; children, Steven (Denise) of Trumbull, Conn.; Howard (Kim) of Pomona, Christopher of Garnerville, Craig of Olathe, KA; grandchildren Howard, Julianne, Nikki, Kyle, Brian, Kelly, Christopher, Kevin, Catherine, Matthew and James, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Russell; and sister, Dolores.
The Family will receive friends & family on from 4-8 p.m. at the TJ McGowan sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Whitey on at 10 a.m. in St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with a private cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Howard’s memory to either David B. Roche Fire Dept. or St Gregory Barbarigo Church. Firematics service will be held on at 7 p.m.
