Terry David Grosselfinger, 68, a Purple Heart recipient and Rockland County's consumer protection director, died Friday, May 19, at Hackensack University Center surrounded by his family following a battle with leukemia.

Grosselfinger was born and raised in Suffern, the only son of the late Dr. Harold and Anna (Val) Grosselfinger. He attended Ramapo Central Schools and graduated from Suffern High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army infantry during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

After his military service, he attended Rockland Community College where he met his future wife. He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a double major in government and economics and went on to earn a law degree from New York Law School. He practiced law in Suffern for several years before changing careers to work for Rockland County.

He served first as Director of Housing and Urban Development, then as Chief of Staff for former county executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, and finally as the Director of Consumer Protection, Weights & Measures, as well as a public advocate.

He was also very active in the Ramapo Little League and served as the league's president.

Grosselfinger is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna Grosselfinger, two children and their spouses: Kevin (Julie Cubino) and Chris (Brenda Reilly) and two sisters, Nancy Grosselfinger and Laurie Grosselfinger (Dick Palinckx). He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Anthony, Rowan, Xander, Nelliah, and Imani Grosselfinger.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern.

Memorial donations can be made to the Bone Marrow Transplant Center of Hackensack University Medical Center.
