Shortly before 1:20 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Orangetown Police Department received a report of a man asleep at the wheel in the intersection of Orangeburg Road and Blaisdell Road in Orangeburg.
Police said that upon arrival at the intersection, officers found New York City resident Felix Urgiles inside a 2017 Toyota with the motor running, stopped and unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
After being woken up by officers, police said that they turned the ignition off, and during the subsequent investigation with Urgiles, they observed the odor of alcohol on his breath, and he had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
Urgiles refused to perform several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene and was placed under arrest for suspicion of drinking and driving. He proceeded to fail a breathalyzer test at Orangetown Police Headquarters and was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated.
After being processed, Urgiles was released on bail and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Nov. 21 to answer the charges.
