Shortly after midnight on Monday morning, members of the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to North Airmont Road near Dunnigan Drive, where there were reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a vehicle that had struck a telephone pole with the 23-year-old driver, a resident of Congers, standing outside the vehicle, according to police.

Police said that it was determined that the driver was heading north on North Airmont Road when it crossed over the southbound lanes and struck the pole. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He has since been released on an appearance ticket and is due back in the Village of Airmont Court later this month.
