Police were alerted to the robbery after receiving a call from the CVS in Garnerville around 1:30 p.m., said Haverstraw Lt. Martin Lund.
The men, left the store and got into a car in the parking lot. Store employees were able to provide police with a description of the car and responding police units saw the car traveling on Rosman Road, Lund said.
When officers tried to stop the car, the driver turned onto a side road and all five men jumped out of the car and fled on foot in the area. One suspect was caught by the car, the other four took off into the area surrounding wooded area. Haverstraw called for help including K9 units, helicopters and state police, Lund said.
Two area schools were locked down and student's had to stay an extra 45 minutes late until the suspects were caught, he added.
The search continued for several hours until the four men were caught. Those arrested include:
- Robert White, 29, Brooklyn
- William White, 29, Brooklyn
- Trevor Owens, 26, Brooklyn
- Joseph Thomas, 43, Queens
- Lee Holt, 28, Brooklyn
Lund said the men stole about $3,700 worth of cold and allergy medicine.
"They can resell this type of medication to other parties," he said.
All five were charged with criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. They are all being held at the Rockland County Jail on $10,000 bond due to prior criminal histories, Lund said.
The Haverstraw police were assisted by the New York State Police, Stony Point Police, Rockland County Sheriffs Office and the Rockland County Aviation unit.
