Eric Luzardo died in the 9:30 p.m. two-car crash when the driver's of one of the vehicles "committed a driver error," while traveling northbound in the Town of Woodbury, said Trooper Michael Cassella.
Five other people were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, he added.
The northbound lanes of the Thruway were closed for hours following the crash.
The investigation is still ongoing, and charges may be pending.
