Elena N. Jennings, 32, and Jack C. Bauer, 28, of Kings Highway were pushing their stalled 2001 Honda in the middle of the street when a Wayne police officer leaving another assignment spotted them Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Bauer "attempt to conceal a long pair of scissors in the center console" as the officer approached, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

After Jennings told the officer they'd just left the motel, he looked inside the car -- and spotted a table lamp, a comforter and some towels, Martin said.

A backup officer arrived, and police found vape containing hash oil, along with a straw with powdery residue on it, the captain said.

After police took the couple into custody, a manager told them they were spotted wandering the motel, trying to get into rooms, Martin said.

Bauer also had an outstanding warrant from the Bergen County town of Ho-Ho-Kus.

He and Jennings were released on summonses, pending court hearings, charging them with receiving stolen property and possession of hash and drug paraphernalia, the captain said.
