Junathan McNeil was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and criminal mischief in the second degree, all of which are felonies, on Tuesday. McNeil allegedly shot a woman in the leg on Andover Road in Hillcrest around 1:30 a.m. on July 10, according to Ramapo police.

According to Det. Lt. Mark Emma, McNeil had a dispute with the female victim, who was in a car with another male at the time. Emma described McNeil as “an ex-domestic partner” of the victim.

After the dispute McNeil left the area but returned 20 to 30 minutes later and fired five shots at the car; four struck the car door and one struck the female victim, who was standing outside the car. The female victim’s mother was sitting outside at the time of the shooting.

The victim was transported to Nyack Hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening injury. The male in the car was not struck by any bullets.

“Very lucky,” is how Emma described the wound to the female victim, which entered and exited her leg without causing serious damage.

McNeil was arrested two days later after an investigation by the Ramapo Police Department, who were assisted by the county Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

McNeil’s bail was set at $500,000 and he was transported to Rockland County Jail in lieu of bail.
