Suspects Break Taxi Window To Continue Assault In Rockland, Police Say

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - Two men are in police custody in Rockland County after allegedly assaulting a 27-year-old who unsuccessfully attempted to flee his attackers in a taxi.

The Ramapo Police Department received a report of an assault in progress at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, where a caller alerted officers that a man was being assaulted on North Highland Avenue in Chestnut Ridge.

Upon arrival at the scene of the alleged assault, police were able to locate a taxi driver, who told officers that the man had fled the attackers into his arriving taxi cab, though the two men proceeded to break the taxi cab window to continue the assault.

Police were able to track down the suspects - whose names have not been released - a 21-year-old Hillcrest resident who was charged with criminal mischief, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. His alleged cohort, a 19-year-old Spring Valley resident, was charged with assault and criminal mischief.

The suspects’ victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and has been released. The two suspects of the alleged assault are being processed at Ramapo Police Headquarters on the charges.
