WALLKILL, N.Y. -- A 39-year-old Middletown woman is facing child abuse charges after an investigation by members of the Orange County Child Abuse Unit showed she struck a child with a "dangerous instrument," state police said.
Georjina Marquez is charged with felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, police said. She's being held in Orange County Jail on $7,500 bond, or $2,500 cash, police said.
She was also ordered to stay away from the child and report back to Wallkill Town Court on March 22, police said. The police worked with the Orange County Department of Social Services Child Protective Services, police said.
The investigation started with a report to the New York State Child Abuse Hotline, police said. In addition to New York State Police, officers from Goshen, Port Jervis and the Orange County Sheriff's Police are part of the child abuse unit, police said.
