The Hudson Valley's congressional delegation is offering its thoughts and prayers in the wake of Wednesday's shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) as Republicans were practicing for the annual Congressional Softball Game in Virginia.

Scalise is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

"Mary Fran and I are praying for the victims of today’s shooting, including Majority Whip Scalise, congressional staff, and the brave men and women of the Capitol Police," Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) said.  "Thank you to our law enforcement and first responders who rushed to save lives."

Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) tweeted the shooting was a "horrifying tragedy."

"Praying for my colleagues, their staffs, and the Capitol Police, Lowey said.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-Cold Spring) said on Twitter his thoughts were with Scalise, the Capitol Police, and staffers who were shot.

“I am so grateful for our brave Capitol Police officers and first responders who were on the scene and acted quickly – they literally saved lives," Maloney said. “The Congressional Baseball game is a time-honored tradition in the spirit of charity and bipartisanship – we must honor that tradition. Today is a good reminder that while we can get caught up in labels and parties, what ultimately matters is that we are all people and we are all Americans.”

Rep. Eliot Engel (D-Bronx) said the shooting was cowardly and offered his prayers to Scalise, staffers, and police who were caught in the crossfire.
