Troodler Disbarred, St. Lawrence Sentencing Date Set

The State Supreme Court has disbarred former Ramapo Assistant Attorney Aaron Troodler following his convictions for federal securities fraud and other charges, along with former Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence.

The disbarment, which is retroactive to March, when Troodler pleaded guilty is connected to his admission that from 2008 to June 2015, as both assistant town attorney and executive director of the Ramapo Local Development Corporation (RLDC), he, along with St. Lawrence and others defrauded investors by making false statements about the corporation's financial health.

The controversy surrounded the corporation's construction of a minor league baseball facility and a 132-unit condominium complex known as Ramapo Commons.

St. Lawrence, who is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 27 before Judge Cathy Siebel, faces between 11 to 14 years.

Troodler, who is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 12, is expected to be given a lesser sentence in return for his testimony against St. Lawrence.

During the trial, Troodler testified that St. Lawrence signed off on illegal money transfers and produced phony revenue statements to give the appearance that RLDC looked financially solvent on paper.

When rendering their decision of disbarment, the five-judge appellate panel wrote: "Any person being an attorney and counselor-at-law who shall be convicted of a felony as defined in paragraph e of this subdivision, shall upon such conviction, cease to be an attorney and counselor-at-law."

Troodler submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court in a response expressing his remorse and requested that the court move forward with his disbarment.
