RAMAPO, N.Y. -- East Ramapo School District voters have approved a $58 million bond to repair schools Tuesday.

A total of 1,641 people voted yes and 375 voted no.

The money will be used to repair both facilities and classrooms, according to officials.

"The approval of the bond is a major victory for the students of East Ramapo," said state Sen. David Carlucci, D-Clarkstown.

"In conjunction with legislation passed this year to provide support for monitors on the ground, this bond will ensure that our students have the facilities and equipment they need to succeed," Carlucci said Wednesday. "I thank everyone for coming out to vote. I will continue to work on securing legislation to keep the monitors and to restore vital programs and services."
