Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced a joint effort with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to put money in next year's budget to allow districts to provide for full day kindergarten.
North Rockland is one of six districts in the state that only has half day kindergarten.
"Experience has shown that full-day kindergarten gives children a head start and allows them to grow and thrive in so many ways," Heastie said.
The district will be offering a full-day program for 66 students this fall as part of a pilot program, using federal aid. The students will be chosen via a July 10 lottery, according to LoHud.
