THIELLS, N.Y. – A Rockland County teacher left paralyzed by a surfing accident has been back in the classroom for nearly a year now ... and he's loving it, according to a report by lohud.com.
Billy Keenan, a 49-year-old New City man, said he is thrilled that his social studies students at North Rockland High School treat him like any other teacher, lohud.com reported.
A former captain in the U.S. Army and athlete, the married father of two boys is an accomplished musician who played guitar and sang, according to an earlier lohud.com article .
Although he has physical obstacles to overcome, Keenan said he finds his five-day-a-week job not only liberating, but a way to convey the importance of never giving up --- not even during life's darkest moments, the lohud.com story said.
