HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Haverstraw resident John W. Freeman Sr. died on Wednesday, Jan. 13. he was 88.
He was born to William and Agnes (Lynch) Freeman on June 30, 1927, and raised in Haverstraw.
Freeman was a World War II Navy veteran. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Yankees and Navy football, but he loved Notre Dame football.
He is survived by his children John Jr., Mary-Lee, Elizabeth, Richard and Robert; nine grandchildren; a sister Maureen Phillips; and brothers, William, Patrick and Richard.
Freeman was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, at St. Peters Church in Haverstraw, with at St. Peters Cemetery. The George M. Holt Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
