HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Robert “Babe” Hawkesworth -- a York, South Carolina, resident, formerly of Haverstraw -- died on Wednesday, Dec. 30. He was 74.
He was born on March 31, 1941, in Manhattan, New York to Alexander and Minnie Pearsall Hawkesworth.
Hawkesworth was an ex-captain and a 46-year member of Lady Warren Hose Co. No. 5 of the Haverstraw Fire Department. He was also a life member of the Rockland County Volunteer Fireman’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Tirrell Hawkesworth; children Mariane Bateman, Gene Hawkesworth and his wife Veronica, and Kelly LaForge and her husband Mike; brother Howard Hawkesworth of Chambersburg, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Tirrell Hawkesworth; parents, Alexander and Minnie Pearsall Hawkesworth; sisters Georgian Morrison, Elizabeth Paulick, Arlene O’Neisha and Bonitabell Bertram; and brothers Gene and Mike Hawkesworth.
T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, in Haverstraw handled arrangements.
