HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe announced that Wilfredo Franco, 56, of Haverstraw was sentenced to 10 years in state prison with 10 years of post-release supervision for sexually abusing a young boy on numerous occasions over several years, beginning in 2006.

"The defendant has admitted to preying on a young child for his own degenerate pleasure," Zugibe said. "The sexual nightmare that he inflicted on his victim destroyed his childhood innocence and scarred him emotionally for life. As such, the sentence is more than warranted."

Franco pleaded guilty to course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree, a class "B" felony, and admitted to the repeated sexual abuse of the child on July 7, 2015.

Upon completing his sentence, Franco will be required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registry Act, commonly known as Megan's Law.
