WALLKILL, N. Y. -- Three Middletown men are in custody facing weapon and drug charges following a brief car chase Sunday with New York State Police after police tried to stop their car in Wallkill.
Police arrested and charged Tywan St. Philippe, 21, the car's driver, and his passengers, Jamaad Murphy and Dyzier Lewis, both 19. All three have been charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
At about 2:41 p.m. Sunday, police saw the 2007 Honda Civic with the men inside commit several driving violations along Industrial Drive in Wallkill, police said.
Instead of stopping, the car continued to travel but eventually stopped in a driveway on Janice Drive, police said. When officers searched the car, they found an illegally possessed and loaded .38 Special handgun, 2.6 grams of heroin, and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
In addition, St. Philippe is facing a charge of third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a car, and Murphy is facing second-degree criminal impersonation for giving police a false name and birth date, police said.
All three men were arraigned before Town of Wallkill Justice Peter W. Green, and are being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of bail, police said.
