WEST HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- A West Haverstraw man was arrested twice on Thursday for driving while on drugs by Stony Point Police.
Zachary Morrell, 20, West Haverstraw, was charged with DWAI after police responded to a rollover accident with injuries on Filors Lane, near Theills Road, said Stony Point Lt. Keith Williams.
When police arrived on scene of the accident they found Morrell and an unidentified 19-year-old femaile, who received minor injuries during the crash. She was transported to Nyack Hospital for a laceration where she was treated and released.
Following her release she was charged with possession of marijuana and released on an appearance ticket.
Morrell was also charged and released with a court date of Oct. 6, Williams said.
Several hours later police received a call about an erratic driver in the area of South Liberty Driver. When officers responded, they found Morrell again driving a vehicle while under the influence of drugs, and this time, he was also in possession of the drug Alpazolam, police said.
Morrell was arrested and charged again with DWAI and possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned before the Stony Point Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail. He given another court date, also on Oct. 6.
The Stony Point Police Department was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department drug recognition expert.
