Do you think the new Tappan Zee Bridge should be named in honor of the late NY Gov. Mario Cuomo?
- Absolutely
- Absolutely not
- Not sure
- The new bridge shouldn't be named after any person
Day spoke out following the New York State Senate and Assembly passing legislation to name the bridge after former Governor Mario Cuomo. Gov. Andrew Cuomo noted his father doesn't have anything named after him.
The county executive said he is against naming the bridge after a political figure, preferring to honor Purple Heart veterans or the victims of the Sept. 11 attack, according to spokeswoman Jane Lerner.
He "also supports the idea of naming the bridge in memory of the three law enforcement officials killed in the 1981 Brinks robbery by domestic terrorists who were trying to reach the Tappan Zee Bridge," Lerner said.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino ripped the move and said it would be more appropriate to name something in Queens after Cuomo.
The current bridge is named after another former New York governor, Malcolm Wilson, who lived in Westchester.
