HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. – Haverstraw Elementary School sixth-grader Sravanth Malla participated in the National Spelling Bee last month, finishing 15th, according to lohud.com.
Malla advanced past the preliminary rounds on May 25 as one of the top 45 finishers, qualifying for the next day's finals, lohud.com said.
He made it as far as the sixth round, getting tripped up by 'monture', spelling it 'moncheur' instead, reported lohud.com.
Merriam-Webster's definition of the word is 'a frame or setting especially for a jewel,' lohud.com noted.
